Setting up the blog was fairly easy for me because not only is the tool (blogger) user-friendly, but I had previous experience setting up a <a href="http://infs1000.blogspot.com">course blog</a> for my <a href="http://www.minneapolis.edu/library/courses/infs1000/support.htm">Information Literacy course</a> I teach at <a href="www.minneapolis.edu">Minneapolis Community &amp; Technical College</a> where I am a Library &amp; Instructor in the <a href="www.minneapolis.edu/library">MCTC Library</a>.<br /><br />I must admit that I really enjoy Web2.0 tools--learning about them, exploring them, and challenging myself to think about how they impact the flow and exchange of information and how they impact the students I work with at the reference desk and in the classroom. I also like to imagine how I can incorporate some of the tools in my teaching and throughout the library and the MCTC campus. These are some of the reasons I am really looking forward to completing this independent study, if you will.<br /><br />I had some reservations about creating an avatar--but even that was a fun experience. It didn't take me as long as I expected it to. The <a href="http://avatars.yahoo.com/">Yahoo! avatar </a>is also really easy to use--maybe I'll go back and play with my avatar's style, change it up a bit (though I doubt it as this is not a high priority for me...).<br />One thing I do like about using an avatar is that it is a great alternative to using an actual photo of myself. The identities people choose to reveal in the virtual world are all over the map--some are completely comfortable letting everyone know every detail about them and others strive to maintain a certain level of privacy.
